ARTIST STATEMENT
Series Description: Mapping the Flow
My work lives where natural terrain meets human structure. This body of work approaches landscape through the lens of aerial cartography, transforming natural waterways and city grids into dynamic geometric webs on canvas. The series explores the tension between ECHO—the organic, untamed flow of nature—and MECH—the rigid, man-made controls we place upon the environment.
Inspired by locations ranging from my home of Chattanooga, Tennessee, to cities like Washington, D.C., and New Orleans, I use a distinct stained-glass visual language to capture these dual forces. Organic earth tones, turquoises, and deep browns represent the underlying land and waterways, while crisp, sharp overlays of orange, pink, and white define the man-made roadways and grids. Using defined linework, I fragment the canvas into vibrant mosaic patterns.
Ultimately, these paintings explore flow, boundary, and perspective. By translating topography and infrastructure into living patterns of color and energy, this series invites viewers to see familiar geography through a reimagined, aerial lens.
