On Friday, May 23rd, we are excited to welcome a couple of our hip hop friends from neighboring states to Jackson for a special show at TurnUp Studios in Midtown.

Coming from Baton Rouge is Marcel P. Black, who considers Jackson a second home. Marcel wears many hats: Emcee. DJ. Writer. Youth Development Worker. Community Resource Coordinator. Former Block Bleeder. Spoken Word Poet. Live Performer. Father. Husband. Revolutionary. Historian. Scholar. Proletariat. God. Ardmore, Oklahoma. Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We are excited to have him back in Jackson after too long.
Check out Marcel’s extensive catalog here:

Making their first trip to Jackson is Birmingham’s The Green Seed. According to Oxford American, “The Green Seed is a four-person hip-hop outfit roaming the streets of Birmingham, helmed by founding MC R-Tist. Their tracks are accessibly melodic and constructed with the sensibility of classic ’90s forebears like De La Soul—and, like De La, offer messages of positivity and cultural awareness with deft humor as opposed to wearisome sermonizing.” They have performed with Raekwon, Rehab, Das Racist, and many others.

Jaxx City, hailing from Jackson, is the newest signee to Jackson’s Elegant Trainwreck/Homework Town Family, who is releasing his debut full length, NoGood Nick, this summer. Jaxx uses his raps to paint a gritty picture of the city, and the rest of the world around it. For good measure, Jaxx interjects a healthy dose of comic book and movie references, twisted humor, and social commentary, all of which allow him to bring a fresh perspective to the material. Jaxx City is a member of the Vintage Noize crew, along with 7even:Thirty, 5th Child, James Crow, and Ulogy.
