“The Butterflies”

the-butterflies1Recently I traveled north to Oxford, MS and Memphis, TN to help shoot a short film.  The film is somewhat of a romantic drama for 20-somethings with a creative edge found in films such as Michel Gondry’s, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” or even “Science of Sleep.”  My good friend, Winsor Yuan, was the writer and director of this short, bringing in several young, talented actors, Sam Jacobs, Taylor Wood, and Caroline Turner.  Overall it was a great experience with 8 days of shooting and another month of editing on the way.

For those interested, I shot with the Canon XL2 with the DOF adapter, Letus XL 35mm. It was fun to play with a DOF adapter, giving the video a very “filmy” look with very nice depth of field unachievable with raw video alone.

I cut a trailer together from the footage and should have that online tomorrow.  Check it out here soon.

I also will be posting stills from the footage as it is cut here too. So look out for that.  The short film will not be distributed online for the time being, however we do plan to tour the film along with Teal Optical in the winter of 2008 in 6 to 10 various cities in the East US.  Please contact me if you are interested in screening the films or are interested in purchasing DVDs which should be available in late 2008.
